Description

Built in the late 1920’s this dignified stone building is a veritable playground for fans of design. It appeals to lovers of both modernism and classicism thanks to its juxtaposition of exposed beams and furniture fashioned on a whimsically exaggerated scale with tasteful antiques and artifacts collected from around the world.
The designer removed heavy embellishments such as elaborate moldings and faux finishes. In a back corner of the house, where the kitchen and den are tucked, he made his most significant structural alterations, installing a glass rail for the auxiliary stair that appears to float in space and designing a peephole that reveals the kitchen. He also incorporated exposed beams to give the space a stripped-down, unpretentious look and sleek gray paneling that wraps around from the narrow cozy den all the way to the wide-open kitchen to link the two areas and give them warmth.
