When relocating their Headquarters, Northeast Structural Steel sought to inhabit a space that would showcase the company’s purpose of fabricating and erecting steel structures as well as encourage optimal function of their workforce. Exposing the existing structure to reveal the intricacies of the underlying steel assembly highlights the business of steel fabricating.

The desire for clean lines was a design priority. From the entry through the meeting rooms exposed steel joists and rolled beam sections are painted black. For contrast the walls are painted white. The lighting design enhances these features. The black mullion window sections stress the horizontality of the space as they continue down the corridors from the entry. The perimeter windows and corridor glazing permit natural light into the offices mid-section resulting in a light airy space.

Additional features in keeping with the theme include decorative light pendants at the entrance and black pendant lighting and wall sconces throughout the space. The introduction of slate-like materials in the millwork enhances this structural boldness. The floor tile that emulates concrete compliments space.

The final design resulted in a contemporary and functional work environment for employees with an architectural nod toward the business of Northeast Structural Steel.
